Byker is an inner city suburb of Newcastle. It was a damp, cold, grey, dirty kind of day. The streets were almost deserted and I felt very melancholy. I think this image captures my mood and the atmosphere of the day perfectly. It isn't a perfect composition by any means but for me it is a perfect capture as the scene looks exactly how it felt at the time. I think the solitary figure crossing the road is very interesting. He adds humanity to a very man-made environment and even from distance I like to imagine from his body language that he was feeling equally as melancholy as I was.
