I was standing at the bottom of the stairwell and framing a shot of the Empire State Building. I saw the man fill the foreground and thought "now". I wound the film on with the camera still at my eye, and saw the pigeon, just for an instant.
I always got my chromes back uncut and unmounted.
When I saw the two frames together they just became one picture to me.
Picture was taken with a Nikkormat FTN and 28mm lens.
